The first trailer for the thrillerCompanionhas debuted.Yellowjackets' Sophie Thatcher,The Boys' Jack Quaid,What We Do In The Shadows' Harvey Guillén,The White Lotus' Lukas Gage,Never Have I Ever’s Megan Suri, andObi-Wan Kenobi’s Rupert Friend star in the upcoming movie directed by Drew Hancock in his directorial debut. It isscheduled to release in theaters on August 14, 2025, and is being produced by New Line Cinema.
Warner Bros.has now released the trailer providing a first look atCompanion, whichreveals Quaid’s character as a highly dangerous and disturbed individual. Quaid’s character is seen smiling and sitting across the dinner table from Thatcher’s character, who is handcuffed to her chair. Her narration about knowing when one meets the right person is eerily juxtaposed with footage of her hand on fire, Quaid’s character joyfully pointing a gun at her, and her body soaked in blood. What This Means For Companion
Jack Quaid’s Role Is Nothing Like His Character In The Boys
Companion’s first trailer reveals that the story will revolve aroundQuaid playing a highly unstable individual who takes pleasure in seeing others hurt. This is a far cry from his role asHughie Campbell inThe Boys, where he is known for his kindness and for being the titular group’s moral compass when they go too far. Meanwhile, Thatcher’sCompanioncharacter is fighting to survive, but instead of this fight being in the wilderness as inYellowjackets, it is in her relationship with Quaid’s character.
The trailer’s acknowledgment ofCompanionbeing produced by the same studio behindThe Notebookand as"a new kind of love story"raises the potential for it to be a deeply twisted romance as well.

The movie waspreviously reported to be a science-fiction thriller, although the trailer only presents the story as a horror thriller. The science-fiction genre could still be a significant part of the story, but for now,Companionis being marketed as a thriller elevated by Quaid’s unnerving performance and Thatcher’s depiction of a woman clawing to survive despite the horrors she faces. The trailer’s acknowledgment ofCompanionbeing produced by the same studio behindThe Notebookand as"a new kind of love story"raises the potential for it to be a deeply twisted romance as well.
Our Take On The Companion Trailer
As someone who has primarily seen Quaid inThe Boys, I amintrigued to see him in a role that is such a stark contrast from Hughie. The shot of him casually watching the arm of Thatcher’s character being lit on fire is an image that will linger with me for quite some time. Thatcher has been one of thebest parts ofYellowjacketsand looks to be putting on another stellar performance inCompanion, whose story is bound to only get darker beyond what has already been shown.
