In fairness, a lot of Carol Danvers’relationships within the Marvel Universeare far from drama-free, buther already-complicated dynamic with former Captain Marvel Genis-Vell has steadily gone from bad to worse.
Captain Marvel#10 – written by Alyssa Wong, with art by Ruairi Coleman – officially sets Captain Marvel and Genis- at odds with each other, as her predecessor in the role blames Carol for the loss of his final connection to his father, the original Captain Marvel, Mar-Vell.
The series as a whole forced a mind-controlled Genis-Vell into a conflict with Captain Marvel, but just as he snaps back to reality, he could be planning to retaliate against Carol for what she has seemingly cost him.

[Genis-Vell is] not just disappointed, he’s enraged by the destruction of the Nega-Bands, feeling betrayed by Captain Marvel, outright telling her he’s not sure if he can forgive this offense.
Genis-Vell made his return to Marvel inCaptain Marvel#1, at the start of this run. However, his return was an unceremonious one as he was attacked by the villain Omen, in her relentless quest for the Nega-Bands. After cutting off his hands, she kills him and turns him intoher mindless zombie minion. As he fails her, he’s soon killed again, but revived once Captain Marvel defeats Omen inCaptain Marvel#10. Sadly, he doesn’t have time to celebrate his next chance at life,as he’s startled at the fact the Nega-Bands are missing.
The Nega-Bands– which once belonged to his father and were the last remnants of him – were sacrificed in the battle with Omen. Not even a reunion withhis close friend Rick Jonesis enough to cheer Genis-Vell up. He’s not just disappointed, he’s enraged by the destruction of the Nega-Bands, feeling betrayed by Captain Marvel, outright telling her he’s not sure if he can forgive this offense. He tells his friends – or perhaps former friends – that he needs space to himself before he literally turns his back on them.
It’s clear that Genis-Vell is in no mood to be friends with Captain Marvel, but whether he could become her enemy remains an open question.
