As you level up and advance through the Living Lands inAvowed, each ability will become useful in different ways depending on your specific playstyle and build, but there are some obvious winners no matter what angle you approach things from. This guide will break down every Ranger, Fighter, Companion, and Godlike ability and rank them according to their overall usefulness (Wizard spells and abilities inAvoweddeserve a list of their own and are not included here). Each ability has its merits and specific use-cases, but some are clearly more overpowered (OP) than others.
Most abilities have up to three upgrades, which typically increase or enhance the basic ability in some incremental way or include additional effects. The exception to that isGodlike abilities inAvowed, which are extremely powerful on their own and do not have upgradeable ranks. For the sake of this guide, S-Tier abilities benefit pretty much any build, or are so powerful in specific instances that they are simply way better than most others, such as Bear Ally or Clear Out.

Best Abilities In Avowed (Tier List) For Fighter, Ranger, & Wizard
Abilities In Avowed, Ranked From S-Tier to D-Tier
There are some clear ability winners inAvowedfrom each class that will give you a serious edge, even without any upgrading of their Rank. For the purposes of this guide,an S-Tier ability is incredibly powerful, useful in a wide range of situations, and can be utilized no matter which class you’re focusing on. An A-tier ability is one that is also very powerful, but may have fewer applications or perform better when focusing on a specific class or build.
Avowed: Best Fighter Build Guide (Abilities, Attributes, & Weapons)
With 19 abilities to choose from and multiple directions to go in, deciding the best way to build your Fighter in Avowed is no small feat.
B and C-Tier abilities are not quite as powerful as S or A, but still have their useful applications, even if they are niche or require a specific type of build to fully come online. D-Tier abilities are some of the least useful or weakest, or have such niche use-cases that yourpoints are better spent elsewhere. There aren’t any completely worthlessabilities inAvowed, and even those that fall in the D-Tier can be made powerful with the right approach. See the above chart for a full breakdown of each ability and its rank from S-Tier to D-Tier.

Abilities
S
Extremely powerful and widely useful, regardless of playstyle or build type.
A
Slightly less powerful than S-Tier, but still widely useful in a number of situations.
B
Very strong and mostly useful, but maybe only for certain build types or playstyles.
C
Still strong and useful, but only in niche situations or very specified builds/playstyles.
Not very strong and/or might require specific playstyles or builds.

S-Tier
One of the best abilities inAvowedis Clear Out, a Fighter ability that absolutely levels nearby enemies and got me out of multiple tough spots. Equally as OP — especially for aRanger build— are Bear Ally and Scavenger.Bear Ally gives you an awesome bear summon tobeat down and distract nearby enemies.Scavenger enables easier upgrading inAvowedearly on and will make your life significantly easier, and it might be the most versatile and practical ability in the game. It can be swapped out later when upgrade materials aren’t in demand and replaced with something more useful.

A-Tier
Some of the best A-Tier abilities include the similarMarius' Binding Roots and the Ranger’s Tanglefoot. These are both incredibly useful from early on and even later; having the ability to lock down enemies and prevent them from bum-rushing you is incredibly useful in a range of situations. A few other companion abilities fall into this category as well, such as Giatta’s health Barrier, Yatzli’s Essence Explosion, and Minoletta’s Missible Battery. Kai’s Leap of Daring is also available early on, but is great in its ranked up form later in the Living Lands as well.
Barrier (Giatta)
Giatta grants all allies a shield that provides Temporary Health for 20 seconds.
Binding Roots (Marius)

B-Tier
This tier includes the Godlike Remembrance abilities.Unmissable and versatile, they won’t make or break you, as there are plenty of methods for increasing stats elsewhere. Parry falls into this category because it isn’t going to be useful for every type of build, but it is very powerful. It’s similar to Piercing Thrusts, which will add loads of power attack damage to specific close-range melee weapons.Staggering Shot is another strong ability, but specifically for builds that utilize bows or pistols/arquebuses.
Barbaric Shout
Let out a fearsome roar that interrupts enemies and empowers you against larger foes. Your weapon attacks become Uninterruptible and deal higher Stun.

Power Attacks with bows and guns deal +40% Stun.

Marius' attacks deal Bleed Accumulation.
C-Tier
Survivalist is a bit underwhelming even if widely useful. Yatzli’s Arduous Delay of Motion falls here because, while it’s nice to have another method for slowing enemies, Yatzli’s points are better spent elsewhere first.Shadowing Beyond and Marius' Shadow Step are both awesome rogue-style options, but only useful if you’re using stealth regularly. Finesse is excellent, but it only applies damage buffs for one-handed melee weapons, which requires a pretty specific playstyle to make full use of.

Giatta increases the Move Speed and Attack Speed of all allies for 15 seconds.
Arduous Delay of Motion (Yatzli)

Survivalist

Unbending Defense (Kai)
Kai steels his mind to regenerate Health and increase his Damage Reduction by 25%.
D-Tier
D-tier abilities are not necessarily terrible or useless, but there are probably better options, or they have extremely narrow applications. Armored Grace is a reasonable later-game pickup, but there are other effective ways of mitigating Stamina penalty, and you’re probably going to want to prioritize more useful abilities. While Kai’s Second Wind ability sounds good in theory, I found it lackluster, as he’s likely going to get downed again if he was in a bad spot to begin with. Finally, Shield Bash is great and effective for Stun build-up, but not everyone wants to incorporate a shield into their build.
Armored Grace
Decreases the Stamina penalty for Medium and Heavy armor by 15.
Melee weapons Block arrows or similar projectiles when Parrying.
Built to Destroy
Destroying things restores a small amount of Health and Essence. Melee Power Attacks can break destructible walls.
Killing enemies restores 10% of your Companion’s Maximum Health.
Reflect
A perfectly-timed Block with a shield or wand reflects arrows and similar projectiles back at the attacker.
Second Wind (Kai)
When Kai’s Health is reduced to zero, he revives himself by restoring 50% of his maximum Health.
Seeds of Vengeance
Heals and revives all nearby allies and deals damage over time to nearby Delemgan, Dreamthralls, and Vessels. Temporarily turns up to 3 nearby Kith corpses into allied Dreamthralls.

Steady Aim
Holding your Power Attack with a bow or gun slows time by 25%.
Unbreakable
Decreases the Stamina cost when Blocking by 30%.
Overall, there are no truly useless abilities, and even D-Tier abilities can be utilized extremely effectively with the right build. Playstyle is everything, and luckilyAvowedlets youexperiment across classes at a relatively cheap cost. These rankings are by no means definitive; some players may find S-Tier listed abilities to be underwhelming or D-Tier abilities to be OP depending on their stat investment, gear, and other abilities. However, abilities such as Scavenger are going to be very useful for just about everyone.
