Summary
A centralSex and the Citycharacter may die in theAnd Just Like Thatreboot, which would be the biggest insult to the character yet. The continuation of theSex and the Citystory revived the franchise in 2021, and the reboot has been righting franchise wrongs – and creating new controversy – throughoutAJLTseasons 1 and 2. With filming for season 3 officially underway, theAnd Just Like Thatcastwas spotted in New York City in July 2024, dressed in all black – presumably for a funeral. Speculation began about whom the reboot could have booted.
Theharsh reality ofSex and the City26 years later is that the characters are evolving into more mature stages of their lifetimes. There will be difficult moments regarding mortality as the characters progress into their 50s and 60s.The series has already memorably dealt with the death of Carrie Bradshaw’s husband, who died in the season 1 premiere ofAJLT.However, it was understandable that the franchise put its most divisive character to rest. Repeating the trend of killing a central character may not pay off a second time.

Why Sex And The City Ended After Season 6 (Was It Canceled?)
Sex and the City ended after 6 seasons, but it’s hard to tell whether the show was canceled due to problems on set or if it just came to an end.
David Eigenberg Is Miranda’s Ex-Husband Steve Brady
New photos show theAnd Just Like That…characters in all black ahead of season 3. Since he doesn’t appear in the crowd, theAJLTouting is presumed to be Steve’s funeral(viaElle.) The cast photo shows prominentAJLTcast members Seema, Miranda, Giuseppe, Anthony, Harry, Charlotte, Aidan, and Carrie in their best black. One significant detail is that John Corbett is present in the scene. TheMy Big Fat Greek Weddingactor portrayed Aidan Shaw, a prominent figure in theSATCuniverse who memorably dated Carrie. His presence in the scene may be damning for Steve.
Steve’s death could be a narrative device to reunite Carrie and Aidan before the end of their break and force them to reckon with their relationship sooner.

Aidan dated Carrie inSATCbut also developed a close friendship with Steve, and they ran a bar together called Scout. Aidan and Carrie didn’t work inSATC,but Aidan appeared inAJLTseason 2 to reignite their spark. Still, in theAnd Just Like Thatseason 2 ending, the couple decided to take a five-year break from their relationship.Aidan’s attendance at the presumed event ominously foreshadows Steve’s deathbecause Aidan has no place in theAJLTseason 3 narrative otherwise, especially dressed for a funeral. It looks like Steve may be dead in theSATCuniverse.
AJLT Season 2 May Have Set The Scene For Steve To Leave The Sex And The City Universe
Steve Began A New Business In The AJLT Season 2 Finale
When zooming out and looking at the scope ofSex and the Citylore inAJLT,it is clear thatSteve’s narrative has officially run its course. The franchise could reasonably retire the character at this point without leaving Steve with any stone unturned, at least in how his storyline directly relates to the core of theSex and the Cityuniverse.Steve is no longer essential to driving the narrative forward. In contrast to how the series dealt withGarson’s death inAJLT,he would have a believable narrative if Steve’s life did end.
David Eigenberg suggested the hot dog and clam stand toAnd Just Like That…writer Michael Patrick King. Eigenberg grew up going to Coney Island and believed that Steve would have, too (viaDecider.) The authenticity helps craft a believable and resolute narrative for Steve.

At the end ofAJLTseason 2,Steve opened up a hot dog and clam stand on Coney Island. He was recovering from a brutal divorce from Miranda, wherein she left him to be with her comedian lover, Che, after nearly 20 years of marriage. Steve grappled with the divorce on the sidelines before finding peace. In pursuing his business on Coney Island, a lovely evolution from the entrepreneur’s Brooklyn bar, Steve made it clear he had reached an internal resolution. Since the series only revolves around the leading women (now three), Steve was available to do something completely new.
Steve Has Been Treated Poorly In The Sex and the City Reboot
Steve’s role in the narrative is to sow conflict regarding Miranda. Now that they have resolved their relationship, putting their divorce and conflict behind them in season 2, Steve’s former purpose in the narrative isn’t needed. The franchise has to choose whether to keep the Steve character. Still, killing off Steve would be a brutal way to move Steve on from the series.Steve had already taken a back seat and gravitated to Coney Island, so his death would be unnecessary. However,AJLTseason 2 cued it up, and there are hints it will happen inAnd Just Like Thatseason 3.
David Eigenberg portrayed Steve Brady inSex and the Cityseasons 2 through 6 and inSex and the City(2008) andSex and the City 2(2010). In the firstSex and the Citymovie, Steve cheated on Miranda.
Steve was vital to theSex and the Cityuniverse and secured a role in everySATCreboot iteration thus far because he was married to Miranda, one of the leading ladies. His treatment in theAJLTreboot has been poor. After over two decades of a lackluster romance, Miranda cheated on Steveand then divorced him. The couple’s messy divorce was understandably confusing for Steve, and Miranda didn’t answer his questions satisfactorily inAJLTseason 1. It would be a horrible treatment of Steve’s character to die after Miranda’s storyline emasculated him. Steve is still Brady’s dad.
Steve’s death would remove a character already on the sidelines.
Steve is not a perfect character.Steve and Miranda’s relationshipwarranted reckoning inAnd Just Like That…In the original series, Steve emotionally manipulated Miranda concerning major decisions in their relationship, ultimately leading to the couple’s unsatisfying marriage. The series clarified that Miranda and Steve didn’t have an intimate marriage. Thus, their relationship ultimately didn’t work. Still, Steve’s death would remove a character already on the sidelines. After all this, Steve deserves to enjoy his slice of paradise on Coney Island. It might be better to see Miranda’s divorce play out anyway; Steve isn’t hurting anyone.
