Dispatch Takes A Hilariously Twisted Look At Superheroes

The Trailer Shows Off Impeccable Comedic Writing

Dispatchstars Mechaman, a “washed-up dad-bod superhero with no superpowers” who’s forced to get a job at a superhero dispatch agency when his superhero armor suit is destroyed. Although this is a superhero game, the main character is painted as being a typical has-been and is immediately relatablewhen he assures someone that he isn’t actually dead, “just on the inside.” The title looks like it will have a vibrant cast of characters with both super powers and run-of-the-mill flaws, paired with excellent writing and a strong cast of voice actors.

Astro Bot Officially Wins Game Of The Year At The Game Awards 2024

Sony’s PS5-exclusive platformer Astro Bot took home Game of the Year at the 2024 Game Awards, beating out Elden Ring’s DLC and FF7 Rebirth.

Despite having hilarious writing, it’s clear thatDispatchwon’t shy away from darker humor and topics. The flawed nature of the protagonist and the heroes who surround him give this the potential to tell a deep and meaningful story. Stellar voice acting from the likes of actor Aaron Paul and long-time voice actress Laura Bailey make this a title to watch for 2025.

Our Take: Dispatch Feels Like Playing A Superhero Animation

The Art Of The Narrative Video Game Lives On

The trailer forDispatchcould very well be a trailer for an upcoming superhero show until the interactive elements begin to appear. The comedic timing and the fantastic voice acting make it stand out as a game that will feel like playing a TV show. Although the choices presented in the trailer aren’t groundbreaking, the team behind the upcoming title are familiar with making narrative games with decisions that really matter. And at other times, players will be making the choice between making a cute voice or a “meth puppet” voice for a cute pup, so the game will definitely know how to break the fourth wall.

WithThe Wolf Among Us 2potentially canceled, it’s reassuring to see a brand-new title with such strong star power from the AdHoc Studio team, which consists of industry veterans from Telltale Games, Ubisoft, and more. The influence of Telltale Games is clear from the trailer, but AdHoc seems to have also made the interactive game in its own style with this quirky superhero workplace comedy,Dispatch.
