Lucien Went To The Continent To Find Vassa In ACOWAR

Lucien’s time on the Continent would make a greatA Court Of Thorns & Rosesnovella as the details of that trip were never truly fleshed out. Lucien waspowerful inA Court Of Thorns & Rosesas he was the Spring Court’s Emissary and Tamlin’s trusted friend. As the series went on, Lucien lost that power, leaving him to flee to the Night Court and be at the mercy of the Inner Circle. Therefore, when Elain had a vision of Vassa, he offered to go to be of use to his friend, mate, and new Court.

Lucien Vanserra A Court of Thorns and Roses by Dominique Wesson

Readers do not see Lucien again until the closing chapters ofA Court Of Wings & Ruin.He is there to give his condolences to the Archeron sisters after their father’s passing, with the details of his trip to the Continent being told by Feyre in broad strokes. Lucien did find Vassa, but she was already marching with the humans to Prythian, with the book not mentioning what happened in between. Many of those details, such as his bonds with Vassa and Mr. Archeron, could make for a great novella that would allow Maas to flesh out Lucien’s long-neglected role.

This Overlooked Court Of Thorns & Roses Story Could Develop Lucien’s Character Further

The Novella Could Demonstrate His Cunning And Strength More

By giving audiences a novella on this overlooked storyline, Maas could develop Lucien’s character and his relationships more. TheCourt Of Thorns & Rosesseries does have a few examples of Lucien’s cunning and skill as an Emissary, such as during the High Lord’s meeting when Thesan mentions Lucien warning him about the faebane.A novella covering his travels could amplify this point, as he would have to survive and rally others to Prythian’s cause against Hybern. The novella could also showcase some more of his combat abilities, giving audiences more insight into his childhood and training.

Lucien’s relationship with Vassa could also be explored, especially if Maas plans onsubverting the fated mates trope. While it was only hinted at,Lucien’s fondness for Vassa was made clear during his final appearance in the main trilogy.Exploring how that fondness developed could add further conflict to his arc and give audiences more insight into Vassa’s curse, developing the worldbuilding alongside of him. That aspect of his story could easily feed into the nextA Court Of Thorns & Rosesbook if Elain and her love triangle are the focus.

A Lucien Novella Can Add More Detail To His Actions

Having this Lucien-centric novella would be the perfect lead-in to the nextA Court Of Thorns & Rosesbook as it would give audiences a hint at his state regarding his bond with Elain.Elain’sCourt Of Thorns & Rosesbookwill likely feature the growing tension between her, Lucien, and Azriel. Elain is bonded to Lucien, but seems to be developing an organic attraction to Azriel.A novella about Lucien’s time away would give audiences a hint at Lucien’s state regarding what he wants to do about the bond and how it may inform his actions.

Lucien could emphasize how he wants Elain to be just as happy as he is, which he believes she will be with Azriel.

If Maas is subverting the fated mates trope, Lucien’s bond with Vassa, which audiences would see in the novella, could ultimately lead to him rejecting the bond to be with her. Lucien could emphasize how he wants Elain to be just as happy as he is, which he believes she will be with Azriel. Conversely, his time away could showcase his decision to woo Elain and strengthen their bond, which he tried in the fourth book. That could easily lead to Lucien doubling his efforts, giving the nextA Court Of Thorns & Rosesbook an even tenser conflict.
