Summary
Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrailis the latest expansion in the MMO, and like the expansions that have come before it,there are parts that don’t entirely make sense. Writing an entire expansion for an MMO – and one of the most popular MMOs at that – is a big task, and there’s a lot to consider, especially with several expansions having been released previously and multiple characters that are expected to be involved in any new story arcs. Naturally, having to balance all these elements while trying to move the game into its next arc is a lot, and that opens up the potential for pieces to not make sense.
Just like with TV shows,it’s common to have multiple writers working on games, especially large titles from companies that are the size of Square Enix. Of course, there are pros and cons to having more or fewer writers working on a single project. One issue that can pop up is inconsistencies, and it’s possible that’s the cause of many of these listed items that don’t make sense inDawntrail.

Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail - All Shaaloani Aether Current Locations
Attuning to all the Shaaloani Aether Currents will unlock your ability to fly in the Shaaloani region in Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail.
Episode 3 / Quest Giver: Wuk Lamat
In the early parts of the Main Scenario Quests, Wuk Lamat wants the Warrior of Light to try a food she loves: tacos. After waiting to get a bag of delicious tacos to-go, an encounter with Bakool Ja Ja leaves them squished on the ground. At this point, Wuk Lamat decides that it’s time to head to the palace to meet with Gulool Ja Ja, the current Dawnservant, andthe tacos are simply considered a lost cause.
There was definitely enough time to grab another order of tacos before heading to the palace.

However, when Wuk Lamat and her group of helpers arrive at the palace, Gulool Ja Ja is busy fighting Estinien. He has to stop his duel early because they show up in the middle of it, and this shows thattheir summons to the palace wasn’t urgent in nature, which is what they seemed to believe. This means that there was definitely enough time to grab another order of tacos before heading to the palace.
9Ketenramm Keeps The Keys To The City Of Gold Accessible
It turns out that the legendary adventurer, Ketenramm, traveled with Gulool Ja Ja and befriended him, even being present when they discovered and investigated the gate to the City of Gold. Because of this, it might not be surprising that Ketenramm has a set of the keys required to reach the gate. What is surprising, however, is thatKetenramm apparently doesn’t keep the keys in a secured location.
How to Get Earthbreak Aethersand in Final Fantasy XIV
Earthbreak Aethersand is a resource required to craft many of the late-game tools that Crafters and Gatherers to work more efficiently in FFXIV.
This seems like a bizarre choice for Ketenramm to make, especially since he knows how dangerous access to the City of Gold can be in the wrong hands. As a result, it ends up feeling like it wasa decision made entirely because Zoraal Ja needed a way to access the City of Gold, and he wouldn’t be able to get the keys from the Rites or his father. Since it doesn’t make sense that Ketenramm would make this decision, and it’s only relevant to Zoraal Ja’s goals, it ends up making no sense.

8Wuk Lamat’s Power Scaling Is Inconsistent
Quest: Taking A Stand / Playable Character: Wuk Lamat
Power scaling has always had consistency issues inFFXIVfor various characters, including the Warrior of Light. But these issues become more glaring when they’re put at the center of the game’s Main Scenario Quests, which is the case with Wuk Lamat. Since Wuk Lamat is put in the spotlight for the majority ofDawntrail, the issues with her power scaling became that much more apparent.
There isn’t anything in the MSQ that leads up to this boost in power aside from Wuk Lamat having friends believing in her.

She goes from being knocked down by a single strike from Bakool Ja Ja and being kidnapped by random hired thugs to being able to completely overpower Bakool. There isn’t anything in the MSQ that leads up to this boost in power aside from Wuk Lamat having friends believing in her.It feels like the power of friendship is supposed to be the reasoning behind her strength, but it just falls flat and ends up not being believable.
7The Hanuhanu Don’t Know The Importance Of Their Own Festival
Quest: Knowing The Hanuhanu / Quest Giver: Wuk Evu
One of the first trials for the claimants is helping the Hanuhanu find the cause behind their poor reed crops, and then proceeding to help solve the problem. Wuk Lamat decides that her group should just help the Hanuhanu continue the preparation for their festival, because she believes that making them happier might help. Of course, the festival ends up being designed to help with the crops, and the Hanuhanu apparently didn’t know this, so their inattentiveness to it in recent years led to the issue they had.
FFXIV: Dawntrail’s Main Scenario Quest Has A Huge Oversight For One Job
FFXIV: Dawntrail could’ve added some extra spice to the first half of its MSQ by including one specific group that plays a role in this job’s quests.
It makes no sense that the Hanuhanu wouldn’t know that their festival is important for their reeds to grow properly. The festival float shoots aether lasers from its eyes into a statue, and the reed crops are instantly revitalized by it. There’s no way that they wouldn’t realize that this is required for good crops, but they somehow don’t know the importance of their own cultural festival because the plot demands it.

6Moblins Overlook Proper Ventilation For Their Workers
Location: Jungles Of Kozama’uka
One quest from the Moblins asks Wuk Lamat and the Warrior of Light for help figuring out how to improve the working conditions of a Potsworn. The Moblins have worked with Potsworn for a while at this point, which means thatthey should have some background knowledge about various cultures and the requirements of different types of craftspeople. As a result, the problems they’re unable to figure out with one crafter don’t make sense.
For people used to working with and taking care of crafters, these all seem like problems they would’ve been able to notice without help.

The Warrior of Light and Wuk Lamat point out a few issues that need to be fixed to make the crafter more comfortable. Essentially, he needs better ventilation in his workspace, meals that taste good at any temperature, and a new set of tools. For people used to working with and taking care of crafters, these all seem like problems they would’ve been able to notice without help.
5The Second Dye Channels Don’t Cover Much Area
Gear Dye Options In Item Dyeing Menu
One new feature that came withDawntrailwas the addition of a second dye channel for gear. This was exciting, since it would bring more customization options to existing gearby allowing Warriors of Light to dye more sections, and dye them different colors if they want. However, in practice, the second dye channel ended up being rather disappointing due to the lack of effect it has on dying gear.
10 Things FFXIV Doesn’t Prepare You For
As an MMORPG that’s been around for more than a decade, FFXIV throws a lot at you. These are 10 things that you should know when starting out!
The big issue is that the parts of gear pieces that the second dye channel affects tend to be tiny. In a lot of cases, having the second dye channel as an option at all doesn’t make sense, because the piece that gets dyed is so tiny, it wouldn’t be noticeable if the color was different or not. Luckily, this feature is easier to fix than other things that don’t make sense inDawntrail.
4Alexandria’s Origin Isn’t Clear
Level 100 Dungeon / Planet Of Gaia
Alexandria’s existence doesn’t line up with what’s been revealed in the past regarding the Calamities and the Rejoinings that the Ascians caused. It’s clear that Alexandria suffered from a lightning-based Calamity, but the city was able to survive with a barrier. The problem is thatthe knownCalamity of Lightning was the Second Umbral Calamity, which led to the Twelfth being returned to the Source.
If Alexandria was affected by the Calamity of Lightning, which seems the most likely given the severity of the situation that’s seen in-game, thenit wouldn’t exist because it would now be part of the Source. The possible solutions would be that they managed to dimension hop with the city previously, escaping before the Twelfth was Rejoined, or that there was another Rejoining in progress that used lightning, but it wasn’t completed, much like the First. Knowing an answer doesn’t change the story ofDawntrail, but it’s interesting to speculate on a way that this makes sense.
3The Mamool Ja Didn’t Study Agriculture
Quest: The Milk Of Mamool Ja Kindness / Quest Giver: Ceetol Ja
This is another detail that doesn’t make sense, becausethe plot wouldn’t work without the Mamool Ja in Mamook not knowing the effect that aether has on the vegetation in their area. Mamook has placed their hopes in Bakool Ja Ja because he’s a rare Blessed Sibling, who they believe will restore their glory. When asked about what they hope he’ll fix, the biggest concern is their inability to grow plants in the area aside from their bananas.
For Koana and the Scions, it doesn’t take long to analyze the aether in the area and figure out that certain plants would be perfectly suited to grow there, providing a larger variety of food sources for the Mamool Ja. Considering the number of urns in Skydeep Cenote, the Mamool Ja have placed their bets on Blessed Siblings for a long time. Instead of trying to experiment and search for an answer, they ended up with monumental losses when it came to their children.
2Bakool Ja Ja Doesn’t Show More Desperation During The Trials
He Has Compelling Motivation, But Seemingly Cares Little
From the beginning, Bakool Ja Ja is presented as a rather run-of-the-mill villain. He stomps on Wuk Lamat and the Warrior of Light’s tacos, and throughout the trials,he tends to use the work of others to pass rather than find solutions on his own. Overall, the way Bakool acts doesn’t give the impression of somebody who cares about winning, or has anything at stake that would be a problem if he loses.
However, after arriving at Mamook, Wuk Lamat’s party works with Bakool’s mom to find Bakool at the Skydeep Cenote. At this point, Bakool reveals that he’s aiming for the Dawnservant’s throne because the Mamool Ja have placed all their hopes on him, andhe feels that he needs to bear this responsibility in honor of his brothers and sisters who diedbefore they hatched. Given his behavior until that moment, the reveal doesn’t make a lot of sense.
1The Warrior Of Light Needs Help In The Final Trial
Taking The Protagonist’s Spotlight Away
After acting as a mentor to Wuk Lamat for the duration of the MSQ, the last trial is finally the moment that the Warrior of Light gets to step into the spotlight again.Queen Eternal, or Sphene, has made it clear that she won’t change her planto plunder aether from other worlds. Considering the threats that the Warrior has put down in the past, fighting a genocidal robot is a fairly standard task, and well within their abilities.
10 Best FFXIV Trials, From A Realm Reborn To Dawntrail
Final Fantasy XIV introduced several trial encounters through the course of its run, but some bosses have left an undeniable mark on fans of the game.
Somehow, Queen Eternal knocks the Warrior down for the count, which leads to a cutscene where Wuk Lamat breaks back into this computer program to try talking to Sphene once again. Although the Warrior rejoins the fight after this moment, the spotlight is once again taken away. However,it simply doesn’t make sense that the Warrior would need help with the fight, or that Wuk Lamat would be able to force her soul back into a computer program.
As far as gameplay goes,Dawntrailis a lot of fun. But like many MMOs, and even otherFFXIVexpansions, there are several moments that just don’t make sense. Going into the patch series to build up the next expansion, there might even be a few answers given to some points that don’t make sense inFFXIV: Dawntrail.
