Pokémon TCG Pocketwill have new cards by the end of the year, which should mean more fan-favorite Pokémon for players to collect.Pokémon TCG Pocketrecently announced that it wouldrelease more booster packsby the end of the year. This matches previous data leaks that indicated thatPokémon TCG Pocketwould release a “mini-set” of new cards followed by a fullGenetic Apex-sized slate of cards a few weeks later. WhatPokémon TCG Pocketdevelopers haven’t said is what Pokémon will appear in the new set or what new mechanics would be added with these new cards.
Pokémon TCG Pocketlaunched with approximately 200 Pokémon, with all 151 Kanto Pokémon represented in the game. Only a handful of Pokémon from later generations were added, which means many fan-favorite Pokémon were left out of the mix. Considering that decades have passed since some Pokémon were added to the physicalPokémon TCG(such as Budew),it will likely be a while before all 1,000+ species of Pokémon will be added toPokémon TCG Pocket.However, here are a few Pokémon that we hope will be included in the next set ofPokémon TCG Pocketcards.
10Umbreon
Dark-Type Eevee Evolution
The Dark-type evolution of Eevee, Umbreon is a perennial favorite among both old and new Pokémon fans. The Pokémon first appeared inPokémon Gold and Silverand helped introduce Dark-type Pokémon to early players. Umbreon’s yellow rings glow when it prepares to attack, giving it an ominous look.It also has poisonous sweatthat it can spray into enemies' eyes in order to protect itself.
Umbreon was the focus of several popular Pokémon cards, including theinfamous “Moonbreon” cardreleased during theSword & Shieldcycle of cards. An Umbreon card inPokémon TCG Pocketwould not only add some much needed Darkness-type cards to the game,any alternate art card would almost certainly be a highly sought-after chase card.
9Steelix
The Powerful Steel-Type Pokémon Evolves From Onix
Another Pokémon fromPokémon Gold and Silver, Steelix is the Steel/Ground-type evolution of Onix. Steelix is even more durable than Onix, with the ability to travel over a half-mile underground.Its massive jaw can easily chomp through bouldersand its body has a diamond-like hardness due to its time spent undergound. Steelix also has aMega Evolution, a mechanic that will return with the release ofPokémon Legends Z-A.
While Onix is a well-known Pokémon thanks to its frequent appearances in the Pokémon anime series,it has an underwhelmingPokémon TCG Pocketcardthat hasn’t seen much play. Bringing in a strong Steelix card would potentially help boost Onix’s use rate and also add another Steel-type Pokémon card to the game. Like Darkness-type cards, Metal-type Pokémon are under-represented inPokémon TCG Pocket, so this would be a chance to fix two issues with one card.
8Lucario
Fan-Favorite Pokémon With Aura Powers
Lucario first appeared inPokémon Diamond and Pearland has remained a fan-favorite ever since. This Fighting/Steel-type Pokémon is a bipedal dog-like Pokémon with metal spikes emerging from its knuckles. In addition to its powerful punches and kicks,Lucario also has the ability to detect and manipulate Aura, a type of energy exuded from all living beings.
Lucario was one of the surprising omissions fromPokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, largely because it’s so popular.Lucario has appeared on over 40 cards in the physicalPokémon TCG, usually as a Fighting-type Pokémon card. Lucario would be a good candidate to appear as a Pokémon ex card, giving Fighting-type decks a much-needed boost as a counter to the potent tournament-winning Pikachu ex decks.
7Igglybuff
Baby Pokémon That Evolves Into Jigglypuff
A Baby Pokémon that first appeared inPokémon Gold and Silver, Igglybuff is the pre-evolved form of Jigglypuff. This cute puffball-like Pokémon is a Normal/Fairy-type Pokémon with a less-developed singing voice and a very elastic body. Baby Pokémon have a weird place in the physicalPokémon Trading Card Game. While some species of Baby Pokémon (such as Riolu) were added as Basic Pokémon, other Pokémon like Igglybuff have awkward fits because their evolved forms were already added to the game as Basic Pokémon. This has led tosome Baby Pokémon going for a decade or longerwithout appearing in thePokémon Trading Card Game.
In fact, Igglybuff currently has the fewest appearances in thePokémon Trading Card Game.Incorporating Baby Pokémon intoPokémon TCG Pocketwould help demonstrate how the digital game differs from the physical game. Baby Pokémon (like the physicalTCG’s neglected Budew)have some neat mechanics in the physicalPokémon TCGthat would sync up well withPokémon TCG Pocket, especially when it comes to going first. Having a zero-cost energy move would provide some incentive to go first, which would make Baby Pokémon viable in many decks.
6Zoroark
The Illusion Pokémon From Unova
Another Dark-type Pokémon with long ties to thePokémon Trading Card Game, Zoroark is one of the signature Pokémon fromPokémon Black and White. The fox-like Pokémon isbest known for its ability to cast illusions to mask its appearance.This ability appears in the video games, as Zoroark will always initially appear in battles as the Pokémon in the last slot in a trainer’s party.
Zoroark has had several signature Pokémon cards in the physicalPokémon Trading Card Game,all of which involve copying an attack from another Pokémon but with a lower energy cost. Introducing a similar move toPokémon TCG Pocketwould provide an effective counter to Charizard ex or Mewtwo ex decks, both of which have powerful attacks that require four energy to pull off. A Zoroark deck with the ability to copy a foe’s attacks would almost certainly make Darkness-type decks a lot more potent inPokémon TCG Pocket.

The popular Fire-type Starter Pokémon from the Galar region, Cinderace first appeared inPokémon Sword and Shield. This rabbit-like Pokémon is known for its ability to create soccer ball-like creations of fire that it then kicks at opponents.The Pokémon was heavily featured in thePokémon Journeysanimeas the partner Pokémon for Goh.

While Cinderace has enjoyed a prominent spot in Pokémon promo material sincePokémon Sword and Shieldfirst came out,the Pokémon hasn’t had a signature Pokémon card.Pokémon TCG Pocketcould change that with a strong Pokémon ex card that serves as an alternative to Charizard ex in Fire-type decks.Pokémon TCG Pockethas already used Starter Pokémon outside the Kanto region with the inclusion of Greninja, so there’s no reason Cinderace couldn’t make an early appearance in the game.

Ogerpon also has a unique Terastalization, with its donned mask floating in front of it.
Ogerpon has made a splash in thePokémon Trading Card Gamewith a powerful card that accelerates energy onto it. So far, Grass-type decks inPokémon TCG Pocketdon’t have a true energy accelerator in the ways that other decks like Charizard ex or Starmie ex have.Adding an Ogerpon card with energy acceleration would provide Grass-type decks with a major boost, and a new Ogerpon alternate art card would almost certainly become a popular chase card.

The most popular of the “Pikachu clones” that appear in everyPokémongame, Mimikyu is a Ghost/Fairy-type Pokémon that first appeared inPokémon Sun and Moon. This spooky Pokémon wears a disguise resembling Pikachu to help it better fit in and receive affection from humans and Pokémon. However,it also has several scarily potent attacks, including a fearsome Z-Move that draws Pokémon under its disguise and pummels them.
Several of Mimikyu’sPokémon TCGcards involve its ability to negate opponent attacks of some kind. Often, these abilities or attacks specifically target Pokémon with ruleboxes, such as the Pokémon ex cards that appear inPokémon TCG Pocket. Since most ofPokémon TCG Pocket’s most powerful decks are centered around a Pokémon ex card of some kind,a Mimikyu card that can’t be touched by their attacks would be a major game changer.

Our top candidate for a new Pokémon card inPokémon TCG Pocketis the Legendary Dragon/Flying-type Pokémon Rayquaza. Originally hailing from the Hoenn region, Rayquaza is one of the most powerful and iconic Pokémon in the franchise. Not only has the Pokémon remained a top Legendary Pokémon for decades,it has also made frequent appearances in variousPokémonspin-off games and media.
Our bet is that Rayquaza will be added to the game later this year to tie into a cross-franchise event involving theShiny Rayquaza seen inPokémon Horizons: The Series.Several leaks indicate that a Shiny Rayquaza raid will be coming toPokémon Scarlet and Violetat the year’s end, which also seems to be when the new cards will be released inPokémon TCG Pocket. It would be a pretty cool surprise to see a Shiny Rayquaza card inPokémon TCG Pocket, especially if tied to an especially awesome event.
