Vivziepop’s two hit animated series,Helluva BossandHazbin Hotel, exist in the same fictional universe, colloquially known asthe Hellaverse. This overlap between the two musicals has created the perfect opportunity forHazbin HotelEaster eggsto exist inHelluva Boss, and vice versa. Vivziepop has certainly delivered on this score, with character cameos, subtle background imagery, and many other fun references made between theHelluvaandHazbinworlds.
Season 2 ofHazbin Hotelhas burning questionsto answer regarding Lilith, the backstory of Demon Overlords Alastor (Amir Talai) and Vox (Christian Borle), and the fate of the Hazbin Hotel after the battle between Heaven and Hell. Likewise, theHelluva Bossseason 2 endinghas brewed speculation onthe newly revealed Deadly Sins as well as Stolas’ futureafter the trial in “Mastermind.” As fans eagerly anticipate the upcoming seasons, theseHazbin HotelEaster eggs inHelluva Bossdeserve another look.

10The Cursed Wall
A Specific Wall Gets Blown Up Over And Over Again In Both Shows
In both the title establishment fromHazbin Hoteland the I.M.P. building fromHelluva Boss, one specific wall is destroyed over and over again. The first instance occurs in the pilotHazbin Hotelepisode, “That’s Entertainment!” as Sir Pentious (Alex Brightman) blasts through the wall in his dramatic entrance. Later in the series, Angel (Blake Roman) can be heard saying, “What the f**k is with that wall?” asthe same wall is destroyed three more times by Cherri Bomb (Krystal LaPorte), the Loan Sharks, and the Exorcists, respectively.

Meanwhile, back at I.M.P. headquarters, Loopty Goopty (Brandon Rogers) destroys the wall on the side of the conference room inHelluva Bossseason episode 4, “C.H.E.R.U.B.,”soon followed by his former business partner turned mortal enemy, Lyle Lipton (Michael James Ruocco). Exasperated, Blitzø (Brandon Rogers) complains, “I just got that wall fixed!”
9The All-Seeing Eyes
Is The Pervasive Eye Imagery FromHazbin HotelA Reference To One OfHelluva Boss' Seven Deadly Sins?
The imagery of eyes can be seen throughout the Pride Ring where the Sinners ofHazbin Hotelreside under Lucifer’s rule. Alastor’s microphone cane, the character designs of Niffty (Kimiko Glenn), Vaggie (Stephanie Beatriz), Cherri Bomb, and the Exorcists, the exterior of the Hazbin Hotel, and even most of the architecture are just a few of the places the eyes can be spotted. Some have speculated this imagery may allude to the fact Sinners have been doomed to perpetual judgment, but season 2 episode 11, “Mastermind” ofHelluva Bossmay have presented a new Seven Deadly Sins theory.
Due to the overlap between universes, theSeven Deadly Sins seen inHazbin Hotelalso extend toHelluva Boss, and “Mastermind” in particular has revealed two additional Sins in Leviathan and Belphegor. Though her appearance is brief, Belphegor can be spotted at Blitzø’s trial, and her character design is noticeably covered in eyes. Withseason 2 ofHazbin Hotel’s focus on Demon Overlords, Belphegor’s connection to the Hellaverse’s heavy eye imagery may soon be revealed.
8Loo Loo Land
TheHelluva BossAmusement Park Is A Knockoff Of Lucifer’s Loo Loo World
InHelluva Bossseason 1 episode 2, Stolas (Bryce Pinkham) takes his daughter, Octavia (Barrett Wilbert Weed), to Hell’s amusement park, Loo Loo Land. As they enter the park, the Goetian prince questions whether it may bea rip-off of Lucifer Morningstar’s Loo Loo World, a more successful version of the attraction. Not only is this likely a tongue-in-cheek reference to Disney Land and Disney World, but it also explains the heavy imagery of both apples and eyes throughout Loo Loo Land, referencing Lucifer and the Pride Ring, respectively.
Stolas is based on a demon of the same name from the mid-17th century goetic grimoire theArs Goetia, also commonly called theLesser Key of Solomon. In this book, Prince Stolas is depicted as a crowned owl.
With theHazbin Hoteleye imagery coming up far less inHelluva Boss, it’s worth wondering if the Greed Ring theme park is meant to simulate the experience of Lucifer’s Pride Ring for the Hellborn. Additionally, theHazbin Hotelpilot features some subtle background imagery that may reference Loo Loo World more directly with a portrait of what looks to be Lilith and Charlie posing in front of a building strangely reminiscent of the Disney Castle. Hopefully, theHazbin Hotelseason 2introduction of Lilithwill answer some of these questions.
7Character Cameos
These FourHelluva BossCharacters Are Seen InHazbin Hotel
One of the best forms of Easter eggs is character cameos, and the Hellaverse has delivered on this score. Vivziepop’s indie YouTube pilot ofHazbin Hotel,“That’s Entertainment!” inadvertently led to the creation ofHelluva Boss, as the characters of I.M.P. – created for comedic relief inHazbin Hotel– did not fit into the more dramatic plotline and as such were given their own series.
Early versions ofHelluva BosscharactersBlitzø and Loona (Erica Lindbeck) are seen throughout Charlie’s (Erika Henningsen) interview on Katie Killjoy’s (Brandon Rogers) 666 News broadcast. “Mastermind” character Vassago (Harvey Guillén) can be seen in this same audience, alongside an unnamed, seemingly two-headed Goetia.Moxxie additionally appears in “Happy Day in Hell,”playing an Imp who sings, “Got a ton of barbed wire to shove in his hole!” while launching an aerial attack on an unsuspecting Sinner.
6The Arms Dealer
Carmilla Carmine Weapons Are Referenced InHelluva Boss
Demon Overlord Carmilla Carmine (Daphne Rubin-Vega) is an arms dealer with a few notable appearances inHazbin Hotelseason 1, particularly inHazbin Hotelmusical numberssuch as “Respectless,” “Whatever it Takes,” and “Out for Love.” Though little has been revealed about Carmilla beyond her devotion to her daughters, thisHelluva BossEaster egg confirms that her arms dealing extends beyond theHazbin HotelPride Ring.
The voice actor for Demon Overlord Asmodeus additionally voices Zestiel inHazbin Hotel.
Upon discovering Striker’s rifle inHelluva Bossseason 1 episode 5, “The Harvest Moon Festival,” Moxxie exclaims, “Oh, my crumbles! A genuine Carmine-Crafted Blessing-Tipped Rifle! How…How in the f**k did he get one of these?!” Thus far,Carmilla is the only Demon Overlord whose existence has been explicitly confirmed in both Hellaverse shows; while others are referenced in more subtle Easter eggs, Overlords such as Alastor, Valentino, and Vox are not explicitly named.
5Dumpster Graffiti And Blitzø’s Doodles
Portraits of Characters As Well As Happy Hotel References Are Seen Throughout The Show
Throughout theHelluva Bosspilot, many doodles can be seen referencingHazbin Hotel.Interestingly enough, these visuals almost always seem to reference theHazbinHotelpilot, which could indicate that not only do the two universes overlap, butthe actual timelines ofHelluva BossandHazbin Hotelmay also align. As the I.M.P. disposes of a body, the dumpster in the background bears graffiti ofHazbin Hotelpilot phrases such as, “Always chasing rainbows” and “The Happy Hotel,” along with what is ostensibly a drawing of Cherri Bomb andHazbin HotelvillainAdam.
Blitzø also has doodles that appear to beLucifer, Carmilla Carmine, and Rosie(Leslie Rodriguez Kritzer) on his “Boss Goals!” vision board. There is additionally a portrait of Sir Pentious seen on the wall in the trailer.
4Broadcasting Network Overlaps
Katie Killjoy’s 666 News & C.H.E.R.U.B. Commercials
As early as the pilot episode ofHelluva Boss, several overlaps in the media of the Hellaverse can be seen. As an Imp is interviewed, the distinctive silhouette ofHazbin HotelcharacterKatie Killjoy can be seen as her 666 News is broadcast on a screen in the background. In the same episode, Loona can also be spotted watching Charlie’s interview on the same news network, which is odd given the factLoona was present during Charlie’s interview.
The world-building of the Hellaverse draws heavily from theological sources, featuring each of the Judeo-Christian Seven Deadly Sins, along with many demons that exist in various religious texts. Additionally, Hell in each series has a theologically accurate number of rings (seven), and a comment from Katie Killjoy in theHazbin Hotelpilot even references Dante’s nine circles of Hell.
Later on in season 1 episode 4, Blitzø can be seen shooting a television as it plays the C.H.E.R.U.B commercial jingle. Since the C.H.E.R.U.B.s exist in theHelluva Bossuniverse, this is not an Easter egg so much as an interesting implication thatHeaven’s broadcasts are available in Hell.
3Empty Chairs At Empty Tables
Lucifer Was Supposed To Be At The Trial In “Mastermind”
InHelluva Bossseason 2 episode 11, “Mastermind," Andrealphus (Jason LaShea) waxes poetical during Blitzø’s trial as an empty throne with imagery of apples can be seen in the background. On the throne sits a note reading, “BRB” with a doodle of a duck in a tophat, clearly implying this is Lucifer’s throne, though he has never been seen in theHelluva Bossuniverse in the past (despite brief references made by characters’ exclamations of, “Oh, my Lucifer!”). Every other Deadly Sin is present during this trial, begging the question of where Lucifer was during such an important event.
It has been widely theorized that Lucifer was occupied in the reconstruction of the Hazbin Hotel at the time Blitzø was put on trial. Additionally,Hazbin Hotelestablished Lucifer as the ruler of Hellin season 1 episode 5, “Dad Beat Dad” musical number “Hell’s Greatest Dad,” which has led fans to speculate as towhy Satan (Patrick Page) claimed to be the ruler of Hell.Vivziepop has confirmed in live streams that this was a lie. The existence of the 7 Rings and 9 Circles of Hell may hold a future explanation for this.
2Mammon’s Robo Dolls
Demon Overlord Valentino Has A Robo Fizz Named Kitty
Fizzarolli (Alex Brightman) is one of the bestHelluva Bosscharacters, and much like the other main characters of the show, it seems he may have originated from theHazbin Hotelpilot, “That’s Entertainment!”. During a pan to Alastor watching Charlie’s interview,a Mammon-like jester can be seendangling from the upper left corner of the screen in the audience. This may have been an early version of Fizz himself, especially given the presence of otherHelluva Bosscharacters in the same audience.
Fizzarolli’s voice actor (Alex Brightman) also voiced the characters of Adam and Sir Pentious inHazbin Hotel.
Later,Hazbin Hotel’sValentino is revealed to have a Fizzarolli robo doll named Kitty, as seen inHazbin Hotelseason 2 episode 8, “Radio Killed the Video Star.” Some have speculatedthis robo Fizz may be a Vox Tech knockoffgiven the size and color, though Mammon’s two Fizz robo dolls inHelluva Bossseason 2 episode 11, “Mastermind” seem to indicate that the dolls can be customized. This is one of only a few subtle references toHazbin Hotel’s DemonOverlords of Hellin theHelluva Bossuniverse.
1Vox Tech
Helluva BossCharacters Trust Vox Tech With Their Hellphones
InHelluva Bossseason 1 episode 7, “Ozzie’s,” Blitzø collapses on his sofa before opening his Hellphone to its home screen. On this screen, an array of Vox Tech apps can be seen, as well as apps related to the remainder of the Seven Deadly Sins. “Envee” and “SleepyPillz” are of particular note, as they relate tothe two most recently introduced Deadly Sins: Leviathan and Belphegor. Respectively, they are associated with the sins of envy and sloth.
8.1/10
4/5
7.3/10
Additionally, in season 1 episode 8, “Queen Bee,” a party-goer can be seen wearing a muscle tank that reads, “VoxFlix and Chill.” This is one of the only explicit references toHazbin HotelDemon Overlordsin theHelluva Bossuniverse, implying that Vox Tech, much like Carmilla Carmine’s arms dealing and Mammon’s sale of robo Fizz dolls inHazbin Hotel, extends between the 7 Rings and 9 Circles of Hell.
